About the program
Galaxy, the digital asset and data center company, set aside up to $5 million for developers and researchers working on post-quantum cryptography for Bitcoin. Bitcoin relies on elliptic curve cryptography that a large enough quantum computer could break, and Galaxy says few developers are working on the problem relative to its size.
Grants are evaluated one by one and paid by milestone. A Quantum Advisory Council of outside experts, including Barry Sanders (University of Calgary) and Eran Tromer (Boston University), helps evaluate proposals. The initiative also includes a research and publishing program run by Galaxy Research.
There is no form or deadline: you apply by emailing quantum@galaxy.com. Galaxy also invites other institutions to co-fund grants.
02
What they fund
- Implementing and reviewing quantum-resistant transaction proposals
- Developing and integrating post-quantum signature schemes into Bitcoin
- Tooling for wallet and custodian migration
- Formal security audits of proposed implementations
