About the program
xGov is the Algorand Foundation's on-chain grants program. It pays builders retroactively for open-source public goods that are already built and working, such as SDKs, wallets, explorers, developer libraries, dashboards, pooling services and indexers. A proactive option, paid against milestones, is described in the specs but is not available yet.
You create a proposer profile on the xGov portal, pass KYC, and submit a proposal that asks for a set amount of ALGO. The proposal is discussed on the Algorand forum, then a committee of xGovs (Algorand accounts that take part in consensus) votes on it. If it passes, the xGov Council checks it against the terms and conditions and the treasury pays you in full.
Funded proposals include Use-Wallet, Lute Wallet, the Folks smart contract library, Pact Fi liquidity pools and an Algorand x402 integration. In August 2026 the Foundation agreed to fund the treasury from staking rewards on about 110 to 120 million ALGO of Foundation nodes and to hand more control of the program to the Council and the Ecosystem Advisory Council.
